Supply Chain Security, Emerging Threats and Legal Fixes: A View from the Cyberspace Solarium Commission

The Columbia Law School National Security Law Program is hosting a webinar featuring Senator Angus King, (I, ME), Dr. Erica Borghard (The Atlantic Council), and David Simon (Mayer Brown) on the topic of “Supply Chain Security, Emerging Threats and Legal Fixes: A View from the Cyberspace Solarium Commission.” The event will be held on December 15, from 10:00-11:00 AM, EST [PLEASE NOTE UPDATED TIME] and will be moderated by Professor Matthew Waxman.

Dependency on China and other rivals for some of our most critical supply chains, especially with respect to information and communication technologies, poses challenges for U.S. national security and competitiveness. This program will discuss threats to supply chains, legal and legislative dimensions of the problem, and prospects for reforms.

 

Panelist Biographies:

 

Senator Angus S. King Jr., (I-ME) is the US Cyberspace Solarium Commission's Co-Chair. He was appointed to the Commission by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY). Senator King was sworn in as Maine’s first Independent United States Senator. Now in his second term, Senator King is a member of the Armed Services Committee, the Select Committee on Intelligence, the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, and the Committee on Rules and Administration.

 

Dr. Erica Borghard is the Senior Director and Lead, Task Force One, for the Cyberspace Solarium Commission. She came to the Commission from West Point, where she held the position of Assistant Professor in the Army Cyber Institute. She is currently a resident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council with the New American Engagement Initiative at the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security.

 

David Simon is Chief Counsel, Cybersecurity and National Security for the US Cyberspace Solarium Commission. He is a partner in Mayer Brown's Washington DC office and a leading member of the global Cybersecurity and Data Privacy practice. He is also a member of the firm's National Security and Government Contracts practices and a former special counsel at the US Department of Defense (DoD).

 

Moderator Biography:

 

Professor Matthew C. Waxman chairs Columbia Law School's National Security Law Program. A former senior official at the State Department, Defense Department and National Security Council, he is also Adjunct Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations and Senior Advisor at WestExec Advisors.
